Электоральные настроения населения Украины: апрель 2010

Electoral moods of the Ukrainian population: April 2010

Date posted: 29.04.2010 Print Full version

Ratings of other politicians have undergone minor changes: support of P. Symonenko - 2.6% and A. Tiahnybok - 1.6% has somewhat increased, while support of Yushchenko has decreased - 1.3%. In addition, about 1% of respondents would support V. Lytvyn and A. Hrytsenko. About 1% of respondents would support other candidates, 4.6% would not support any of the candidates, 13.4% of respondents would not take part in elections or have not decided.

In the West of Ukraine, simultaneously with decrease in support of Yulia Tymoshenko and Viktor Yushchenko (as of mid-April), support of Yanukovych continues increasing (11,1% in the first round, 12.4% in March and 15.5% in April). At the same time the number of people who are uncertain and who support other candidates, in particular Tiahnybok and A. Hrytsenko has increased twofold in the West.

It should also be noted that, compared to the first round of presidential elections, Tymoshenko has suffered major electoral losses in the North (about 13%), in the West (9%) and in the Centre of Ukraine (8%).

Instead, Viktor Yanukovych has additionally gained almost 9% in the Center, 5% - in the North and 4% - in the West for two months.

As of April less than two-thirds of voters would vote for the political forces represented in Parliament today. However, about 20% intend to support new political forces. The rest either have not decided on their support or do not support any political forces.

Thus, among all respondents, parties’ ratings are the following: the Party of Regions - 38.5%, Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc - 18.1%, Strong Ukraine (S. Tihipko) – 10.7%, Front for Change (A. Yatsenyuk) - 4%, CPU (P. Symonenko) - 2.7%, Freedom (O. Tiahnybok) - 1.7%, Our Ukraine (Yushchenko) - 1.4%, Lytvyn Bloc - 1.3%. Other parties gained less than 1%, against all - 3.6%, have not decided or will not take part in elections - 16.2%.

Compared to March the rating of Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc has decreased the most (from 22% to 18.1%), the rating of the Party of Regions has increased the most (from 36.3% to 38.5%).

It should be noted that there are downward trends in overall support of S. Tihipko’s Strong Ukraine (from 12.1% to 10.7%), especially in the West and in the Centre of Ukraine. However, the position of S. Tihipko in the South and in Donbas has not changed and has even improved – it is possible that "relatively stable Tihipko" factor somewhat inhibits the expected increase in ratings of the Party of Regions.

The target audience of the research: the population of Ukraine aged from 18 and older. Optional quantity: 2000 respondents. The methods of investigation: personal formalized interview according to the questionnaire (face to face). Measure of inaccuracy for the values close to 50% is less than 3%, for the values close to 30% – less than 2,65, for the values close to 10% – less than 1,8. The period of completion: 16-24 of April 2010.
