According to the research conducted by the Sociological group "Rating" at the end of September 2011, family (66%), children (53%) and friends (41%) bring the greatest joy to adults over 18 years of age.
The top five of "JOY RATING" is completed with money (31%) and watching TV (27%).
Every fifth respondent finds joy in his job. Moreover, almost every fifth respondent rejoices at nature, traveling, music, birthday, giving and receiving gifts.
Every sixth respondent rejoices at pets and housework. Holidays / vacations (14%), food (13%), sex (13%), cinema (12%), books (12%) and the Internet (10%) bring joy to somewhat fewer people.
Less than 10% of respondents rejoice at praying (church), shopping, singing, sports and victories of their favorite team. Less than 5% - from dancing, studying, theater, solitude, alcohol and gambling.
Only 3% of respondents do not rejoice at anything in their lives.
It should be noted that compared to a similar survey conducted by the Sociological group "Rating" two years ago, in 2011 people feel less joy only from watching TV, movies and vacations / holidays.
As for other options, people’s feelings have not changed or have even improved - the largest "growth of happiness" is caused by work, sex and the Internet, as well as by celebrating birthdays and receiving gifts, pets and victories of the favorite team.
However, over two years the number of people who experience the joy of solitude has increased significantly - today there are 5% of them.
Moreover, it turns out that over two years people began to feel less joy from watching TV, and more joy from the Internet.
By the end of September 2011 residents of the North (especially Kyiv), the West and the Centre seem to be the happiest. The least happy are residents of Donbas.
The WEST is certainly the leader in terms of joy brought by family and children, work, songs and praying (church). Just like two years ago, praying (church) brings the greatest joy to the Greek Catholics.
Residents of the CENTER are more likely to receive joy from birthdays and gifts, as well as from housework and pets. According to these criteria, residents of the Centre are very similar to those of the SOUTH, who, in addition, are absolute leaders in feeling the joy of watching TV.
Residents of the EAST are absolute leaders to feel joy from money - the saying "Don't have one hundred roubles but one hundred friends" works relatively less here, because the East is the only region where money brings more joy than friends. At the same time, people love nature here and rejoice more at holidays and traveling than in other regions. People are also happy over birthdays and gifts, shopping and food.
Music, movies, books, theater bring a lot more joy to residents of the NORTH (especially Kyiv).
Family brings joy equally to residents of cities and villages. At the same time, friends, money, traveling, books and the Internet capture CITY DWELLERS, while children, gifts, housework, church and songs bring more joy to VILLAGERS.
Family, children, gifts, housework, pets, books, theater, shopping, singing songs and praying bring more joy to WOMEN. While friends, money, work, TV, food, the Internet, sports and victories of favorite teams, alcohol and gambling bring more joy to MEN. Just like two years ago, sex brings more joy to men than to women.
It is sad to observe, but with age people start to feel less joy. The older people are, the less joy they feel from friends, money, traveling, music, movies, sex, shopping, dancing, and sports. The older people are, the less they rejoice at birthdays. At the same time, they feel more joy from housework, TV and church. However, elderly people rejoice at books more than young people.
Middle-aged people find joy in solitude more than others, they rejoice at giving gifts, at books, theater and nature. Also, they enjoy their jobs more.
Just like two years ago, young people rejoice at children (they are like children themselves) and family less than others, while feeling more joyful than others over friends, music, traveling, the Internet, cinema, sex, dancing, and sports.
With the help of correlative analysis of respondents' answers, we will try to make a certain JOY MATRIX joy and identify related kinds of joy.
Thus, if people rejoice at "BIRTHDAY", they love to receive and give gifts and enjoy shopping more than others. Just like two years ago, they love to receive gifts more than to give them. Please note that respondents who enjoy shopping, have a very positive attitude towards money, which is quite logical.
The second and the most "ACTIVE" group of related kinds of joy is formed by work, vacation / holidays, friends, food, money, sex, traveling and the Internet.
This group can be contrasted with an "INACTIVE" group, which includes praying, songs, and housework. For the latter, rejoicing at pets is a related kind of joy.
Sports, dancing, victories of the favorite team and studying are related kinds of joy in the "SPORTS" group.
The next - "ART" group is formed by cinema, music, books and theater.
The joy of "SOLITUDE" correlates with the joy of being in the nature best of all. This group is close to and often intertwines with the already mentioned "ART" group.
People, who rejoice at family, also rejoice at children and vice versa. This group is called the "FAMILY" group.
In the "GAMBLING" group alcohol and gambling are related kinds of joy.
