Monitoring of local elections 2020: Kyiv

•    Results of the survey carried out by the Sociological Group Rating on September 4-9, 2020 among the residents of Kyiv, revealed that 49% of respondents believe the military conflict in the East of Ukraine is the biggest national problem. Every fourth to fifth person is convinced that the most important problems for the state are the lack of work, the industrial decline, bribery and corruption within government bodies, low salaries and pensions, and the coronavirus epidemic.

•    At the personal level, respondents consider military conflict in the East and low level of salaries and pensions to be the biggest problems (28-30% each). Bribery and corruption within government bodies, low quality healthcare, coronavirus epidemic, growth of tariffs, and government incompetence are of personal concern for 16-19% of the polled.

•    The cost of utilities is a problem that respondents consider most relevant for Kyiv (42%). The traffic jams, low level of healthcare, illegal buildings are of concern for every third resident of Kyiv; low quality of utilities, lack of subways in new districts of the city, and poor condition of roads – for every fourth.

•    57% are satisfied with the activities of Mayor Vitaliy Klytschko, 37% are dissatisfied. On the other hand, 37% are satisfied with the activities of the Kyiv City Council, 51% are dissatisfied, and 21% were unable to assess.

•    49% are satisfied with Kyiv public transport, 39% are dissatisfied. 36% are satisfied with educational institutions, 39% are dissatisfied, 26% could not assess. 24% are satisfied with the police performance, 51% are dissatisfied, and 24% were unable to assess. The majority of Kyiv residents are dissatisfied with the activities of communal enterprises in the capital (65%) and medical institutions (67%).

•    Considering the rating of political forces (elections to the city council), the leader is “UDAR” party - 23.6% of those who have decided and intend to vote are ready to support it. “Sluha Narodu” party is supported by 13.6% of respondents, “European Solidarity” party - 13.1%, “Holos” - 8.2%, “Opposition Platform – Za Zhyttua” - 7.4%, “Batkyvshchyna” - 7.3%, "Peremoha of Palchevskyi" - 3.9%, “Shariy Party” - 3.7%, "Syla i Chest" - 3.4%. The rating of other forces is below 3%. About 12% have not decided.

•    Among the mayoral candidates, the leader in the ranking is Vitaliy Klytschko - 43.6% of those who have decided and intend to vote in the elections are ready to support him. 9.8% could support S.Prytula, 6.9% - I.Vereshchuk, 6.4% - A.Palchevskyi, 5.8% - O.Popov, 5.7% - O.Kucherenko, 4.2 % - O.Omelchenko, 4.0% - D.Hordon. The rating of other candidates is below 3%. About 11% have not decided on their choice.


Audience: residents of Kyiv aged 18 and older. The sample is representative in terms of age and gender. Total sample: 1200 respondents. Personal formalized interview (face-to-face). The margin of error does not exceed 2.8%. Period of the survey: 4-9 September, 2020.
