Socio-political moods of Kyiv residents

•    According to the survey carried out by the Sociological Group “Rating” on April 4-7, 2020, among the residents of Kyiv, 53% of the polled perceive the coronavirus as a real threat to themselves and their families, 40% oppose this opinion.

•    59% indicated that they had a job prior to quarantine. Among them, 21% indicated that they continued to work as usual after restrictions were imposed. 22% work remotely, 13% are on the unpaid leave, and only 3% have lost their jobs.

•    92% support the requirement to wear a compulsory mask in public. 71% - support the decision of the Kyiv city authorities to close the subway during quarantine (21% - oppose), 65% - do not object to the restrictions on visiting the parks, forests, and coastal zones during quarantine (31% - oppose).

•    59% of the polled believe the measures taken by the Kyiv Mayor V.Klytchko to react at the coronavirus threat are efficient, 26% share the opposing opinion. Regarding Kyiv medical institutions, 35% think their measures are effective, 29% - ineffective, 35% - failed to respond.

•    47% of the respondents believe President Zelensky's reaction to the threat of the coronavirus spread in Ukraine is effective, 35% share opposing opinion. With regard to the Ministry of Health, 38% found the department's actions efficient, 42% - inefficient, 20% failed to respond. As for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 38% consider the actions of this institution effective, 35% - ineffective, 27% - could not answer. With regard to the efficiency of Prime Minister D.Shmigal's actions, 40% of the polled found it difficult to answer this question. 28% assessed them as efficient, 32% - inefficient.

•    The activities of Kyiv Mayor Klytchko are approved by 54%, disapproved - by 32%; 14% were unable to answer. 35% are satisfied with the performance of the City Council, 35% are dissatisfied, 28% could not answer on the matter.

•    43% of the polled are rather satisfied with President Zelensky's performance, 44% share opposing opinion. 21% are satisfied with Prime Minister Shmigal's activities, 37% - are dissatisfied. However, 43% have not yet been able to assess his work. 18% are satisfied with the activities of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, 63% - dissatisfied, 19% - unable to answer.

•    46% think the situation in Kyiv has improved during the time V.Klytchko holds the post, 32% think it has not changed. Only 14% mention deterioration over this period.

•    Vitaliy Klytchko is a leader among the candidates for the post of Kyiv mayor. More than 38.7% of those who have decided and intend to vote would support him if the elections were held in the nearest future. 9.1% of the polled would support S.Prytula, 8.8% - S.Tkachenko, 8.2% - A.Palchevskiy, 6.4% - O.Omelchenko, 5.2% - O.Popov, 4.4% - B.Bereza. Other candidates' ratings are below 4%. About a quarter of the polled have not decided on the choice.

•    The simulation of the second round of mayoral elections revealed the following results: if V.Klytchko and other rating candidates approached the second round, the current mayor would win within all options of combinations. Thus, considering the pair with O.Tkachenko, 47% of the polled would support V.Klytchko, while the candidate from "Sluha Narodu" party would be supported by 18%. Considering the pair with S.Prytula - 48% vs. 20%, with A.Palchevskiy - 49% vs. 19% in favor of the head of Kyiv.

•    The leader of electoral preferences in the elections to the Verkhovna Rada is “Sluha Narodu” party - 22.3% of those who intend to vote and have decided are ready to support it. 18.6% of the polled are ready to support “European Solidarity” party, 13.5% – “UDAR”, 9.4% - “Batkivshchyna”, 7.2% - “Opposition Platform – Za Zhyttia”, 5.9% - “Holos”, 3.8% - “Shariy Party”, 3.2% - “Syla i Chest”. The rating of other political forces is below 3%. About a quarter of the polled have not decided on the choice.


Audience: residents of Kyiv aged 18 and older. The sample is representative in terms of age and gender. Total sample: 2000 respondents. Method of the survey: CATI (computer-assisted telephone interviews). Based on a random sampling of mobile phone numbers. The margin of error does not exceed 2.2%. Period of the survey: 4-7 April, 2020
