Foreign policy orientations dynamics (February 16-17, 2022)
• According to a survey conducted by the 'Rating' Sociological Group on February 16-17, 2022, 62% support Ukraine's accession to NATO. 30% have a negative attitude toward this initiative. Over the last two months, the level of support for joining the North Atlantic Alliance has increased (at the end of 2021, 55-58% of respondents supported accession). This is the highest recorded level of positive perception of Ukraine's integration into NATO since observations began in 2014.
• Accession to the European Union is supported by 68% and not supported by 24%. As with NATO, the level of support for EU accession has increased over the last two months and reached the highest indicator in the history of research since 2013.
• The idea of Ukraine's integration into Western structures enjoys greater support among respondents in the West and Center, and less in the South. In the East, the number of NATO accession supporters is lower than the number of opponents. Regarding the EU, a parity between opponents and supporters is observed in the eastern regions. Over the last few years, there have been no significant differences in the assessment of Ukraine's foreign policy vector across age demographic groups. However, in electoral segments, the non-acceptance of Ukraine's accession to Western structures clearly prevails among voters of the 'Opposition Platform – For Life' party and Murayev's 'Nashi' party. Among the voters of other political forces, the vast majority express positive support for Ukraine's accession to both the EU and NATO.
• 55% of respondents believe that Ukraine should withdraw from the Minsk Agreements if Russia recognizes the so-called 'DNR' and 'LNR' as independent states. 24% are against it, and 21% are undecided on the matter. A relative majority of the population supports withdrawal from the Minsk Agreements under the aforementioned conditions, regardless of the region of residence and age. Only in the electoral breakdown is a difference noticeable in the assessment of such a development: a relative majority of surveyed voters of the 'Opposition Platform – For Life' and 'Nashi' parties are either against withdrawal from the Minsk Agreements or hesitate in their answer.
